Photography Gallery at Canalside Inn

We are so excited to announce that Canalside Inn has opened up an Art Gallery in Rehoboth Beach, DE showcasing several local Delaware photographers and other US photographers.

The show was assembled by Canalside Inn’s  owner Kristen (Marson) Deptula who always had a love for photography since a young child.  Being the official family memory capturer of her childhood, she has always enjoyed snapping photos with unique angles.   Kristen took great interest in photography when Ron Carpenter a well known photographer in Leavenworth, WA agreed to teach her the art.  In high school Kristen would join Ron all over Washington State to capture the Cascade Kodiaks sports team in football and basketball.  After the games Ron and Kristen would spend hours in the dark room perfecting each photo.  Later in life Kristen started capturing landscape photos of her travels.  Some of her favorite shots are from Portugal, a sunset photo of the Elif Tower, and views of Rio de Janeiro!

When Kristen and Bryan purchased Canalside Inn in September 2019 the couple knew they wanted to add something unique to their rooms.  It wasn’t until a few months into owning the inn the couple went on a date for dinner and movie.  There wasn’t a table available for them to have a nice dinner, so the couple asked another patron if they could join him at his table.  He said yes and the three enjoyed the conversation and this is where the gallery idea was sparked.

Brian White spoke to the couple about his photography and Kristen pitched the idea to him to have some pieces at the Inn.  As the idea grew in all their minds so did the amount of photographers who were interested in joining in this endeavor.

Read below for information on our gallery photographers.  We hope when you stay here you enjoy our collection.  Please email [email protected] if you are interested in any of our pieces or if you are interested in being part of our new gallery.

My photography is dedicated to the rustic strength and natural elegance that stream from nautical subjects.  From canvas prints suspended on handcrafted nautical mounts to multi-media works sealed in acrylic resin, I strive to create unique photographic presentations with a rustic-modern theme.

The water, wind, sailors, and scenery that surround the sport of sailing continually inspire me.  As the father of a competitive sailor, my son’s love of the sport was the catalyst for me to photograph and document regattas.  I like my regatta photographs up close and personal.

I work throughout the mid-Atlantic region and travel regularly to photograph the yachts, regattas, history, seascapes, and sea life that surround me.  I am continually learning and growing as a photographer and a sailor.  I’m fortunate to be surrounded by so many talented friends from both professions.

I live in Lewes, Delaware with my wife, Alison, and our three children, Brad (20), Molly (18), and Morgan (15). [email protected] Website: https://www.whitesailstudio.com

The next day Kristen called her friend Alexis and asked her to join in the fun and showcasing her artwork!

Meet Alexis Mears

Lexi

My family and I relocated to Lewes, Delaware during the summer of 2019. We had a family home in Dewey Beach for years, but it was always our dream to live at the beach. Much like the recent change in our location I’m also excited to resume my professional photography career! I have a Bachelors Degree in Photography from the University of Delaware. My first photography award was won through the UD Study Abroad Photo Contest.  It was an infrared alternative process image I took in New Zealand. I also have a degree in Occupational Therapy, which is where my career took me before starting our family. I spent the last 7 years as a stay-at-home mom to our 2 boys. A job opportunity as a second shooter for weddings was recently offered to me and has rekindled my passion for photography. Please check me out at www.alexismearsphotography.com. I look forward to hearing from you!

Brian suggested we also talk with Sean Kelley, who has a gallery located at the famous Penny Lane.

Eric has always had an interest in photography, and believes it came from his grandfather. Eric’s photography perspective is a bit different as his formal training is in illustration and fine art painting (BA from The Ringling College of Art & Design in Florida). But, being a dad of three small children means canvas and oil painting isn’t ideal.  He uses photography to fill that creative itch. Eric’s RAW files are like an underpainting, composing photos with the correct exposure. The vision of how the image will turn out comes alive once Eric gets into photoshop and begins to mold the light. Contact: [email protected] facebook.com/ericjcarterphotography
